Lion's Pool was built in the mid 1950's as an outdoor recreation pool and has served the community for decades. It was enclosed in the 1980's and was used as a competitive facility until the aquatic center was built in 1994. Since 1994, the pool has been heated to a therapy temperature, allowing it to cater to the senior population and those needing therapeutic modalities. Vapor barriers, mechanical, cast iron pipe and electrical issues have mounted to the point that continued long-term operations are in jeopardy. Replacement with a true therapy pool would continue to serve our active senior population and provide opportunities for San Juan County citizens to participate in therapy and arthritis classes, joint replacement rehabilitation, and stroke and heart attack recovery. This project would consist of constructing and equipping a new therapy pool with an additional five lap lanes, new administration and support spaces, new bathrooms, and locker rooms.
The City is currently under contract with FBT Architects for a conceptual design study and estimate of probable costs for a new design build.
